The Developers Portal website provides access to Addgene’s data, such as plasmids and sequences. We offer API access to bulk data downloads that are available in JSON format and updated daily, as well as additional API endpoints for easier programmatic access to query the data.
Access to Addgene’s data is granted to approved users and requires accepting a data access license for each API scope requested. Options are available for users at both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
How It Works
1. Submit an access request
On the Developers Portal website, log in with your Addgene account. If you do not have an Addgene account, please create one.
Next, you’ll submit an access request from the portal’s Account Information page. You will need to tell us which API scope you want to access (e.g. Bulk Download: Plasmids with Sequences) and how you intend to use the data.
2. Wait for review
Addgene will review your request and get back to you within five business days. You’ll receive an email once we’ve reviewed it. You can always check the status of your request from your Account Information page.
3. Accept the data access license
Once your request is approved, you’ll be prompted to read and accept a data access license for your request from your Account Information page.
4. Generate your token
After accepting the data access license, you can then generate your token. You will have the option to deactivate your token and regenerate a new one if needed. Please note that a token expires after one year. We will email you a few times ahead of the expiration to remind you to regenerate your token before it expires.
5. Access the data
Read our documentation for how to use your token. Remember each API scope requires an approved access request with a data access license acceptance. You only need one token.
