You can find the source species and isotype of your antibody in a few different places. The first place to look is the antibody’s catalog page, under the “Features” section, where you will find the Source Species, Isotype, and Light Chain Type of the antibody.
After you have received an antibody, you can also find this information in an abbreviated form next to the catalog ID number on the tube label (boxed in the example label below). The text “moIgG2a” tells you that the material is a mouse IgG2a antibody. The “rAb” in the catalog number indicates that the antibody is recombinant.
Please note that the species and isotype features describe the Fc domain of the antibody. Because we distribute plasmid-based recombinant antibodies, we are able to swap the Fc domain of an antibody to change the isotype or species from that of the original antibody. However, the Fab portion of the antibody is still derived from the original source species in these cases. Addgene antibodies that have had the Fc domain swapped have the word “Chimeric” in their names.
