An import permit is a document issued by a national government authorizing the importation of certain goods into its territory. A government may put certain restrictions on what is imported. This can be to reduce the risk of disease or to monitor the import of restricted or dangerous material.
Addgene is not, and does not represent to be, acting in any official capacity on behalf of, or for, the [country] government. Accordingly, users should consult their official permitting office as these forms are subject to change.
It is the customer’s responsibility to provide the relevant import permit and/or supporting documentation in order to facilitate shipping biological materials to a restricted country. There may also be duties applied by local customs upon receipt. Incorrect or invalid contact information could delay your delivery. To update the contact information of the person responsible for your shipment, please email help@addgene.org with the correct email address and/or phone number.
To the best of our knowledge, the following countries require import permits for some or all of the materials that Addgene distributes:
Australia
To avoid delays due to customs inspections, customers in Australia must provide an import permit for every order. Once the order has been placed on our website, we will contact you to request the permit, which can be sent to help@addgene.org. All orders will remain on hold until your permit has been received. More information can be found through the Australian Department of Agriculture.
Based on our understanding, permits should have have a validity of at least 30 days remaining until expiration and include conditions which cover one of the following:

Korea
When placing an order for viral items, we first need to verify that you are ready to receive it. LMO approval may be needed to import virus into the country. Please contact help@addgene.org to confirm that LMO approval has been received and submit your import documents to customs by contacting UPS in Korea. Your order will remain on hold until we hear back from you.

New Zealand
To avoid delays due to customs inspections, customers in New Zealand must provide an import permit for every order. Once the order has been placed on our website, we will contact you to request th permit, which can be sent help@addgene.org. All orders will remain on hold until your permit has been received. More information can be found through the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries.

Spain
Based on our understanding, there may be additional import documentation needed for orders of virus. We have found that the Annexo II document is often necessary for customs clearance. Once your order has been submitted through our website, please contact us at help@addgene.org with your order number and we can send you a completed copy of this document.
Additional authorization may still be required from the Ministry of Health. We recommend that you contact your local customs office or UPS in Spain for more information.
Taiwan
An import permit may be required from the National Health Administration for importing virus into your country. Please reply to help@addgene.org with a copy of your import permit. Your virus order will remain on hold until you get in touch with us.
United Kingdom
To minimize customs delays after your viral order has shipped, please send a copy of your VAT exemption form (VAX) to help@addgene.org so that we can include it with your order. Your virus order will remain on hold until we hear back from you.
