Since 2016 Addgene has been providing viral vector production services to help facilitate scientific research. Our service offers ready-to-use viral particles generated from plasmids in our collection - both under our ready-to-order service and (in the case of AAV) via a new on-demand service. We know that viral production is a common step after requesting plasmids from Addgene, and by providing these services, we can save you time and help you get results faster.
The ready-to-order service is of a set of lentiviral and AAV vectors that we believe will be of broad use, and we thus keep in stock continuously. Not all AAV or lentiviral transfer plasmids will be available as viral vectors. Furthermore, it is important to note that not all plasmids in the collection are AAV or lentiviral transfer plasmids in the first place. If you would like to suggest a viral vector transfer plasmid that is in our collection for availability under this in-stock viral vector service, please use the suggestion form. Not all of those suggested, will be made available.
To counteract these limitations, as of January 2025 we are also offering an on-demand service we call AAV Packaged on Request. For any eligible plasmids in our repository that are not offered in the serotype of your choice under the ready-to-order service, you can request AAV vectors of those serotypes to be made as a small-scale preparation for your lab. An eligible plasmid is an AAV transfer plasmid which encodes the viral vector genome - and that is publicly available via our repository as a plasmid item. The types that we offer under this AAV Packaged on Request service are AAV2/1, AAV2/2, AAV2/5, AAV2/8, and AAV2-retro. In our catalog, these are also known as AAV1, AAV2, AAV5, AAV8, and AAVrg - respectively.
With these viral vector packaging services, we bring the same high-quality standards you expect from Addgene. For more information, visit our Viral Vector Packaging Service overview.
